Call for Performers: Rockin' the Mic Against Rape -- NYCROCKIN' THE MIC AGAINST RAPE is a cultural event organized by the anti-rape activists of NOT IN OUR CITY, a grassroots project of The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault. This September, ROCKIN' THE MIC AGAINST RAPE will be held at the Bowery Poetry Club where spoken word artists and poets will inspire New Yorkers to join the movement to end sexual violence. NOT IN OUR CITY is calling out for spoken word artists and poets of all ages/experience levels to ROCK the MIC AGAINST RAPE! We are looking for Poetry & Spoken Word about anything from survivor stories to visions of a world without sexual violence and anything else we haven't thought of yet ... Starting at 6pm September 20th selected acts will perform at the Bowery Poetry Club. Performers will be asked for how long they will be performing (minimum: 2 minutes, maximum: 10 minutes) and will be given a specific time slot. Basic sound equipment will be available. To perform, please contact cstjohn @ nycagaisntrape.org with a general idea of material (i.e. survivor story or feelings regarding rape culture or imaginings of a world without rape, etc.) and how much time is needed. Last call for performers will be September 5th!! *For questions, please contact: cstjohn @ nycagainstrape.org or go to www.nycagainstrape.org Reply |
