We’re writing to let you know about a great low/no-cost opportunity for girls in New York City this summer.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit summer day camp serving girls aged 8-18. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, learn about different types of music, and generally rock out. The goal is to bring girls from different backgrounds together for activities that encourage self-confidence, creativity, critical thinking, tolerance, and collaboration.

We had a great first season last year, and this summer we’re hoping to reach even more girls. Details about this year’s sessions are listed below, and more information, and camper applications are available at www.williemaerockcamp.org.

We’re hoping to spread the word about Rock Camp to girls and young women who would benefit from attending camp. We are also looking for adult women volunteers -– musicians and non-musicians -- who can serve as role models and mentors for the girls attending camp. We would be happy to send some camper and volunteer applications your way, in addition to promotional postcards. If your organization is interested, just let us know how many copies you would like, and we will make arrangements to deliver or send them. Please note that our deadline for camper applications is May 15th, 2006.

Session 1: Mon. July 17 - Fri. July 21, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., final showcase concert on Sat., July 22

Session 2: Mon. August 7 – Fri., August 11, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., final showcase concert on Sat. August 12

Both sessions will be held at the Brooklyn Friends School in Downtown Brooklyn.
